Teachers, students and staff at Caroline Chisholm School rally behind a new school song.

Working with Canberra radio station Mix 106.3, Caroline Chisolm School has developed a tune for their primary and secondary schools.

Set to the tune of the popular 1969 song Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond, the song’s lyrics focus on the school’s culture, values, and sports houses.

The Mix 106.3 team wrote the chorus and the first verse, while teachers and students developed the second verse.

“Mix 106.3 was looking for a school without a school song to work collaboratively to develop a school song,” said school principal Jennifer Howard.

“It was a great opportunity to partner with a local business to celebrate public education and capture something very special for future generations at Caroline Chisholm School.”

Professors Miriam Marley-Reed and Samantha Briggs were tapped to help write the lyrics.

“It was important for us to be able to integrate our core values - respect, responsibility and perseverance. They are all essential to everything we do,” Miriam said.

“We are quite a competitive school, so we also wanted to talk to our four sports houses. We’ve incorporated our houses and their colors into a section of the song that’s more like a chant,” Samantha said.

“It was a great opportunity for our junior and senior students to interact and collaborate.”

Caroline Chisholm School Song (to the tune of Sweet Caroline):

It all started in 85
Since then, we have all become stronger.

Learning is our thing,
We will dream and grow together.
Down here in the sun of Tugg’ra’nong.

One, community,
P to 10, teach me, teach you.

We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We also show respect and care.

We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We persevere and do our best, oh yes.

Orange, red, pink, yellow.
Cooinda and Karingal.
Houses that mean, we are happy.

Blue, purple, green
Jumbana and Mullaya
Always a companion to talk about.

One, community,
P to 10, teach me, teach you.

We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We also show respect and care.
We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We persevere and do our best, oh yeah

We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We also show respect and care.
We are CCS (bah bah bah)
We persevere and do our best, oh yeah
